GEN4 Battery Technology: Development Update
Our GEN4 battery development journey is progressing, a stable Lithium-Metal chemistry that is showing meaningful results in current testing. Our 10Ah A-sample cells are nearing 900 cycles, a performance level that has been independently validated by the Fraunhofer ISE Lab on 1Ah cells.
This technology is designed to operate across a wide range of temperatures, support fast charging of up to 70% capacity in under 15 minutes, and achieve energy densities above 400 Wh/kg enabling potential EV range improvements of up to 50%, while remaining compatible with competitive manufacturing processes.
Below is a summary of key findings from the current A-sample testing phase.
Performance Data
GEN4 cells are built on a Lithium-Metal chemistry. Current testing has produced the following results:
- 1,000 A-sample cells manufactured, supporting initial assessments of production consistency.
- Cell capacity up to 15Ah, relevant for higher-capacity applications under evaluation.
- Energy density of 404 Wh/kg (NMC configuration), which is consistent with targets for extended EV range.
- Approximately 70% capacity retention at -20°C, indicating acceptable low-temperature behavior in test conditions.
- Approximately 70% charge recovery in under 15 minutes at a 4C rate, based on current testing protocols.
Durability Data
Cycle life and operating stability are key areas of focus in the GEN4 testing program.
- 10Ah A-sample cells have reached close to 900 cycles with more than 80% capacity retention under test conditions (C/4 charge, D/2 discharge protocol; 40°C; 6 bars pressure).
- Independent verification by Fraunhofer ISE confirmed comparable results on 1Ah cells, providing external validation of the data.
- Cells have shown stable behavior across a range of operating temperatures and pressure conditions, supporting confidence in the Lithium-Metal chemistry and its interfaces.
Testing continues, and these figures reflect results to date rather than final specifications.
This work is being carried out by Blue Solutions’ internal teams in collaboration with development partners, with key GEN4 results independently validated by the Fraunhofer ISE Lab. Progress on GEN4 reflects a sustained, methodical effort to advance a European-made solid-state battery technology.
