GEN4 Technological Update: Fast Charging on Lithium Metal Cells
Blue Solutions’ Gen4 battery development is progressing. We share fast charging results from Lithium metal cells with 10Ah of capacity. Our technology can charge in under 11.5 minutes, recovering 70% of the battery capacity at 40°C, at a charging rate of 3.6C.
Overview
Blue Solutions’ Gen4 is designed to:
- Operate in large temperature ranges
- Demonstrate high stability, reaching 900 cycles
- Achieve competitive manufacturing
- With Energy Densities >400 Wh/kg, this technology will allow EVs to reach 50% higher ranges.
Fast Charging Performance
GEN4 10 Ah NMC Cell: Up to 4C Fast Charging
- GEN4 battery cells charge in under 11.5 minutes at 40°C and 14 minutes at 25°C.
- At 40°C: under 11.5 minutes at a charging rate of 3.6C, recovering 70% of the battery capacity
- At 25°C: 14 minutes at a charging rate of 3.0C
Results at a Held 4C Charge Rate
A held charge rate shows how far a single, constant rate gets you. At a held 4C charge rate, Blue Solutions’ cells recover:
- 65% of the capacity at 40°C
- 57% of the capacity at 25°C
Test Conditions
Tests performed on Lithium Metal NMC 10 Ah pouch cells, 25°C and 40°C temperature, 6 bar pressure
Key Findings
- Fast charging: 70% of the battery capacity recovered in under 11.5 minutes at 40°C
- Held 4C charge rate: 65% of the capacity recovered at 40°C and 57% at 25°C
- Stability: High stability of Lithium-metal and interfaces
- Applications: Strong potential for high performance applications
