Bluetram , which runs on tires and is entirely electric, is a clean public transport solution that needs neither rails nor overhead power cables. It can be quickly deployed without major and costly infrastructure work. Using Blue Solutions supercapacitor technology and a telescopic charging connector, Bluetram takes only 20 seconds at each stop to recharge, while passengers get on and off. Each new charge gives Bluetram a range of up to two kilometres. Each stop is equipped with energy storage capacity equal to the vehicle’s, to enable this quick recharging. The first Bluetram was inaugurated on the Champs Élysées in Paris at the beginning of December 2015 for COP21. It continued to be trialled for the rest of the winter, transporting visitors between the Arc de Triomphe and Place de la Concorde free of charge.
From 2018, the Bluetram will also be tested in Singapore, at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), for a duration of 2 years.
The 6-meter version of the Bluetram can transport 22 passengers, while the 12-meter version can take 90. It is made at the Blue Solutions site in Ergué-Gabéric, Brittany, in a plant that was inaugurated in January 2015, with a total investment of €30 million. The Bluetram company, building on the Autolib’ experience and R&D programmes at Blue Applications subsidiaries Polyconseil and IER, will soon be able to offer an integrated tramway management solution (vehicles, stations, computerised management system).
